Start the day right with a browse through the wide range of stores and stunning art galleries along the main street of Penola. Encasing homewares, clothing, gifts, candles, plants, fresh flowers, books and more. Mid-way through your wander, take a break with a coffee and treat at one of our hospitable cafes.
11.30 – 12.30pm
Before heading off for lunch, make a Segway to the iconic, Jill’s Vintage, opposite the Royal Oak Hotel on Church Street and see what unique item you might find.
12.30 – 2.30pm
No matter the weather, the outlook is stunning from Upstairs at Hollick in Coonawarra. While enjoying the view over the vineyards and into the winery’s barrel shed, partake in gourmet cuisine, perfectly in keeping with a girl’s day out. Or, venture to Ottelia + Fodder to enjoy some of the most delicious seasonal produce around with delectable wines. Not feeling overly hungry? Most Coonawarra wineries offer beautiful cheese platters to compliment their wine.
2.30pm – 4.00pm
Continue wine tasting along the Coonawarra strip, meeting the locals and visiting some of our unique cellar doors. Drive from your lunch destination, or make the most of the Coonawarra Walking Trail while getting some fresh air and walking off your lunch. Win-win!
4.00pm – 5.00pm
Heading home from a day trip? Collect a coffee at one of our delicious cafes or the award-winning Penola IGA, some chocolates for your other half and/or the kids from Toffee and Treats and some delicious Coonawarra wine from the Royal Oak Hotel before you leave town. Staying for the night? Head to Koonara down the main street for a final shop and tasting.
5.00pm – 7.00pm
Put your feet up and relax at your accommodation before a refresh and heading out for an unforgettable dinner.
7.00pm – onwards
Dine at one of our local hotels, fine dining restaurants or participate in one of our district’s regular events. Fancy a night in? From cottage-style B&B stays to whole houses amongst the vineyards, there’s amazing options to suit all tastes. Looking for a private chef? No problem. Contact the Visitor Information Centre for suggestions.
