Nature Lovers Rejoice in Penola and Coonawarra

Enjoy our beautiful landscape and get out amongst nature while sampling delicious food and wine.

9 – 10am
Head to the picturesque Greenrise Recreation Reserve including the Arboretum Trail for a lovely walk amongst 110 species of trees, a dry lake and sensational Red Gums.

10 – 11.00am
Hopping back in the car make a stop in Penola and head down historical Petticoat Lane. Take in the sights of the National Trust Herb Garden, Sharam Cottage and adjoining rose garden. Grab some delicious morning tea and a coffee at one of our many cafes in Penola and drive north of Coonawarra to the impressive Father Woods Statues for a picnic. Learn the history and many roles of Father Woods with the statue selections and signage on site.

11 – 12pm
Returning back towards Penola, stop for a viewing of the stunning gardens at St Marys, on V&A Lane.

12 – 1.30pm
Make your way to your choice of winery for a delicious platter in or outdoors, or a sit down restaurant meal at award-winning Ottelia. Coonawarra Memorial Park which adjoins Ottelia, with playground and sculptures is lovely for a wander.

1.30 – 3pm
After lunch, enjoy some of the 5km Coonawarra Wineries Walking Trail for delicious wine tastings as you walk off lunch in the fresh air.

4 – 5pm
As the day draws to a close, make your way to the Penola Conservation Park and Nature trail. This signposted 2.5km walk guides you to bird hides, over the swamp on a boardwalk. The perfect time of the day, to see or photograph bird and animal life, as they feed.
