Enjoy a hearty breakfast at one of our fabulous cafes in Penola.

10.30am – 11.30am
Have a browse through the wide range of retail stores and stunning art galleries along the main street of Penola encasing homewares, clothing, gifts, candles, plants, fresh flowers, hardware, books and more.

Lovely homewares and clothing can be found at Moss and Wild, Di’s Gifts and Flowers or Koonara, vintage finds and antiques at Never Too Old, in-season fashion at Salt and Co (Town Square) and Balnaves of Penola, shoes at Attwoods, and even plants at Penola Home Hardware (Arthur Street). Make your way to the Mary MacKillop Centre, paying homage to Australia’s first saint providing exhibitions on the lives of Mary and Julian Tenison Woods. Continue further down Petticoat Lane to historical Sharam Cottage and the Petticoat Lane Herb Garden.

Want to take a gift back for the kids? Pop into Toffee and Treats for old fashioned lollies or step around the corner to Riddoch Street (corner of the Royal Oak Hotel) to visit the George the Farmer concept store with toys and picture storybooks created in Penola. On the stroll back, take a look at newly opened cellar door, PoPo, located in the Old Post Office.

12.30 – 4.30pm
Venture to award-winning Ottelia to enjoy some of the most delicious seasonal produce around with delectable wines (pre-booking advised). Not feeling overly hungry? Most Coonawarra wineries offer beautiful cheese platters to compliment their wine. Visit the Coonawarra Wine Region website for current events and cellar door offerings.

Looking for something unique? Many of our Coonawarra wineries offer customised experience packages including personalised tours, lunch or dinner with a winemaker and cooking classes. Contact Coonawarra Vignerons for more information or the Penola Coonawarra Visitor Information Centre.

If you’re moving at your own pace, continue wine tasting along the Coonawarra strip, meeting the locals and visiting some of our amazing cellar doors. Drive from your lunch destination, or make the most of the Coonawarra Walking Trail while getting some fresh air and walking off your lunch. Win-win!

4.00pm – 5.00pm
Heading home from a day trip? Top of with some extra wine purchases from the Royal Oak Hotel before heading to the award-winning Penola Foodland for some tasty cheese. Otherwise, top up and head back to your accommodation.
